The Oculus Rift will bring VR to the masses, hopefully next year. It has been recently acquired by Facebook with a £2 billion purchase bringing with it sustained long term funds for the ambitious project, currently in its developer kit 2 stage.
New improvements to the headset recently have improved the specs and made things more immersive than ever. There is now less motion blur and the motion sickness many developers suffered has been completely removed with a few tricks in the pixel deprtment. The headset now also has a 1080p virtual reality display and 360 degrees positional head motion tracking with a lighter design.
Integrated audio has also been added and the new display uses the 5.7 inch Super AMOLED panel from the Samsung Galaxy Note 3. Mac compatibility has also been added, making good on the promise to support Apple devices.
20th Century Fox and Warner Bros were both backing the new Oculus Rift Dev Kit 2 units at the cosplay-filled San Diego convention showing demos of their films, X-Men and Into the Storm.
I personally cannot wait for the giant leap forward into virtual reality.
